I haven’t written a blog post for a while for a couple of reasons, one of which is far more exciting than the other. Let’s start with the exciting one: achieve more is now more than a personal training company. We also have a healthy cafe and will soon be adding a range of treatments including chiropractic, sports rehab and massage.
Everything is in the same building, making it as convenient as possible for you to get fit and healthy. The menu in the cafe is designed to let you make your food choices in the confidence that you are eating a healthy, balanced diet. The treatments we are adding are designed meet a range of requirements from healing injury to relieving stress.
New websites are under construction so look out for more info.
And onto the less exciting reason: I broke my leg last week when I fell climbing and needed an operation to have a plate put in. I’m going to be off my feet for at least four weeks, possibly longer. Over the coming weeks I’ll be telling you about how I’m staying fit with a broken leg and what I’m doing to ensure that it heals as quickly and effectively as possible.
It was two days before I was allowed to get out of bed after the accident and the first observation I made was this: getting around and doing basic things is extremely strenuous when you can only use one leg. I’ve been relying on core strength to sit up in bed and balance to hop down the stairs without falling and getting another injury. I’ve needed my upper body strength to use the crutches and I’ve needed strength all over the get in and out of the bath. You never know when you’re going to get injured, but you can be sure that the fitter and healthier you are, the quicker you’ll recover and the easier it will be.

Wow Ruth,
You really did have a nasty one. Where did you fall? Was it a roped climb? It must have been a pretty serious break to require a plate.
I’m thinking of writing up a post on dealing with injury on Rock Climbing UK. Would you be interested in adding your views?
Nice site BTW.
Cheers, Gareth
Hi Gareth,
I fell from the top move of a boulder problem and just had an awkward landing. The break was very close to my ankle which meant that each time I moved my foot the bone was pushed out of alignment. That’s why I needed the plate.
I’d be very happy to add to your post. Just let me know what you want me to do.
V impressed with your site too, and slightly jealous!
Ruth
